Yellow-bellied sapsucker (male)

The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a species of woodpecker that primarily lives off of tree sap which it obtains by creating sap wells. We observed this male sapsucker at the Susquehannock Wildlife Center feeding on the sap of our sugar maple tree, much like people tap maple trees for syrup.
