While I was working in the yard this evening, nature made my hair stand on end once more. Sometimes days are quiet without a peep, but at dusk the silence is shattered.  Two Barred Owls were hooting away at each other not 50 yards from my home. The dog even looked up to see what was going on in the tree tops. The owl’s calls were so intense that it agitated a pair of Red-Tailed Hawks on the nest. I thought I heard young peeping in the nest, not sure. I’ll see if I can get a better look tomorrow. The nest has been up for over a month so it is very possible. Through all this commotion, I still heard the muffled sound of a red fox barking in the distance. I noticed him in the field searching for a late evening snack just before I headed in for the night.
