Ahh…just returned from my hike on the Lower Susky. The fishermen are starting to catch Hickory shad, with the warming water temperatures. I saw 2 Bald Eagles chatting back and forth in flight, and Deer Creek was lined with herons waiting for an easy catch. The ospreys are here too. One swooped down and caught a shad, and then flew past a few fishermen looking down as if he were gloating. I took a break and watched all the different birds fly back and forth across the Susquehanna. I could sit there all day and look out over that big river, never a dull moment.
On my way back to the car I noticed the distinct coloration of a drake wood duck in a marshy area. I scanned the area for the camouflaged hen. Sure enough, she was there. I was able to get close enough to get a great picture of them both before they slowly disappeared into the thick grasses and downed tree branches.
