SUMMARY:Interfaith Nature Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we partner with Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake to host one of their spring & summer spiritual walks to learn about what’s happening to our local watershed and the web of life that depends on it. Together\, we’ll discuss actions you and your congregation can take to protect your local ecosystem while touring our various wetlands\, stream restoration project and wildlife enhancements at the under construction Susquehannock Wildlife Center. We may even have some of our live animal ambassadors present. \nFrom Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake – “Now is the time for people of faith to heed the call to restore creation. The Earth is a gift to be cherished. Its rich resources are on loan to each of us\, individually and collectively. Yet we have been poor caretakers and our negative impact is evident all around us in trashed and degraded streams and waterways in your own neighborhood. But by working along with others this can change. \nInterfaith Partners for the Chesapeake will work with your congregation to cultivate a strong faith-rooted commitment to pollution reduction.” \n* Suitable for all ages and fitness levels.\n* No pets allowed so that we may increase our chances of observing wildlife.\n* The Susquehannock Wildlife Center is not yet open to the public but will be open for this special event while under construction. \nAll guests must register prior to attending here – http://www.interfaithchesapeake.org/harford

SUMMARY:Sunset Paddle On The Bush River
DESCRIPTION:For our first water tour of the summer\, we will take attendees for a beautiful paddle on the Bush River through part of the Bush River Natural Resource Management Area in Harford County\, Maryland. This is a bring-your-own-boat event where we will lead the group up and back this beautiful tidal freshwater river through marsh and forest canopy while providing on the fly wildlife education. Last year we were fortunate to see bird species such as terns\, herons\, bald eagles\, barn swallows\, red-tailed hawks\, and pileated woodpeckers. We shared the waters with beaver\, muskrat and some eastern painted turtles. Our goal is to treat everyone to a spectacular sunset over the marsh at the end of the trip where we can sit in silence to take in the sounds of nature and block out the modern world for a short moment. \n\n\n \n\n\nWe expect everyone to wear life jackets (PFDs)\, bring water\, a snack\, insect spray\, sunscreen\, and clothing / footwear that can get wet. There will be great photo opportunities but we recommending having waterproof cases or at least dry bags to safely store equipment. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe tides appear suitable but we will keep an eye on the weather as we get closer. If there is thunder\, lightning\, high winds or rain we will reschedule the event.\n\n\n \n\n\n*All vehicles will park in the shoulder of Route 40 on the south side\, just east of the river the river crossing and be left there during the paddle. Please secure valuables and park as far from the busy highway as possible. Safety first! The launch is primitive and done via a bank into the river.\n\n\n \n\n\n* We have limited space on the upper stretches of the creek so please confirm whether you are coming or not prior to the event so we can notify other guests that the event is full.\n\n\n \n\n\n* Suggested donation for event is $10 each\n\n\n \n\n\n** This event made possible by a grant from the Harford County Office of Economic Development

SUMMARY:Night Hike to an Amphibian Vernal Pool
DESCRIPTION:Help us survey a special seasonal wetland area for emerging amphibians such as wood frogs\, spring peepers\, and spotted salamanders. During this time of the year the park canals fill with rainwater and become temporary\, seasonal wetlands called vernal pools. It is in these types of pools that amphibians will migrate to and breed so that they may lay their eggs. This event offers participants an up close look at an ancient ritual that few ever get to see. \n** This date is our best guess but it is subject to change based on weather conditions and availability of wildlife which we will try to confirm ahead of time. Please check back prior to the event to make sure it hasn’t changed. \nDue to the popularity of this event last year\, limited parking\, the sensitivity of the habitat and species\, and the narrowness of the trail surrounding the pools\, we will likely break the event up into two smaller groups and possibly times with a later announcement based on how many sign up using our ticket link. \n* Bring waterproof boots\, a flashlight\, and a camera!\n*To protect the habitat and wildlife we will ask that participants remain on edge of wetlands and that we disinfect all boots that have been in other wetlands prior to entry.\n* Permission for after dusk access has been obtained from Susquehanna State Park. \nLOCATION: We will meet at the parking area on Stafford Road at the confluence of Deer Creek and the Susquehanna. This is about 1/2 mile northwest of the intersection of Rock Run Road & Stafford Road at the Rock Run Mill area. \nThe address that will get you closest is this 806 Stafford Rd\, Havre de Grace\, MD 21078 but you will need to go up a little further on Stafford Road. \nGPS Coordinates: 39°36’46.4″N 76°08’56.7″W \nQuestions or get lost? Call Scott 443-340-7980 \n* Event is free but a ticket is required since space is limited\n* Donations appreciated!\n*This event made possible by a grant from the Harford County Office of Economic Development

SUMMARY:*Cancelled Due to Extreme Weather* First Day Wildlife Hike at Swan Harbor Farm
DESCRIPTION:**Regrettably we will be canceling our first day hike due to severely low temperatures. With wind chills in the single digits we can’t in good conscience invite you all outside. Keep an eye out for our next winter event that we will schedule once we get some good snow cover. Thank you for your understanding. Your safety is our priority. Stay warm and have a happy New Year’s day!** \n\nJoin us to start off 2018 the right way\, outdoors and enjoying both wildlife and some fresh winter air! What better location than one of Harford County’s most beautiful places and one that few people truly get to explore? Since this is a birding hotspot and given the time of the year we will focus our program on birds as well as the mammal species that utilize the park. As we hike we will discuss different wildlife habitats and what utilizes each as we explore from the upper bay along the woodland areas\, around several wetlands\, and down to a small creek. We will train you on what signs to look for during the winter including tracks while hopefully having some exciting wildlife sightings! \nWe will meet at the parking area towards the end of Timber Lane where the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation building is located. \nNotes:\n* Please make sure to where warm clothing and comfortable shoes/boots with thick socks since we will be crossing multiple habitats that can be muddy or wet with snow.\n* There will be wildlife viewing and photography opportunities so bring binoculars and cameras.\n* Children welcome but we will not be using established trails for the most part so they must be able to walk or be carried since strollers will not be able to traverse the landscape\n* Bring water and a snack \nPlease direct any questions or if you can’t find the group the day of to 443-333-9453. \nWe are a non-profit that relies on the generosity of our community to fulfill its mission. A suggested donated of $5 per person is appreciated. \nThis program is supported by Harford County Parks & Recreation who is opening Swan Harbor for us on New Years Day as well as Harford County Office of Economic Development.

SUMMARY:Opt Outside - Black Friday Sunset Hike and Campfire
DESCRIPTION:Join us in following REI’s movement to #Optoutside this Black Friday to show that on a day where so many are crowding into stores to shop\, we can enjoy the tranquility of nature together! We will gather at the site of our wildlife center (not yet open to the public) just before sunset to hike a loop around the property\, see our recent renovations and then settle in around the campfire to warm up\, enjoy some hot cocoa and smores while listening for owl calls and awaiting the beautiful array of stars to join us above. We will discuss the future plans for the wildlife center\, give a lesson on native wildlife\, and we might even have a few extra surprises for you. \nWhile we want you to #OptOutside on Black Friday we strongly encourage everyone going out on Small Business Saturday to support our local economy! \n** Donations to help us with our work and ensure the wildlife center vision becomes a reality is welcomed and encouraged! We are a 501c3 non-profit organization that exists because of the generosity of our community!

SUMMARY:5th Anniversary Open House\, Birthday Party\, Wildlife Baby Shower\, Inaugural First Hike
DESCRIPTION:**Event Moved from April 9th to April 16th due to weather**  Susquehannock Wildlife Society\, a non-profit conservation/education/rescue-rehabilitation organization based in Harford County\, will celebrate its 5th anniversary on April 16 with an open house and slate of activities at the site of its future wildlife center located at 1725 Trappe Church Road in Darlington\, Maryland.  The wildlife center\, currently under renovation\, is located on the newly established 20-acre Hopkins Branch Wildlife Management Area\, which will only be open to the public from 1pm‑5pm during this very limited event. The inaugural hike will take visitors along a stream\, past a pond\, across a meadow\, and through the woods – with breathtaking views of the historic village of Darlington and Deer Creek valley. At the Wildlife Baby Shower\, participants will learn more about the rescue and care of orphaned and distressed baby wildlife\, play wildlife-themed baby shower games\, and can donate items that will ensure superb quality of care for this year’s wild babies. \nAlthough the facility is still under renovation\, visitors can enter the future wildlife center to get a first peek at it how it looks and share the vision of what it will become – a first-of-its-kind hub for wildlife education\, research\, and rehabilitation in northern Maryland\, aimed at conserving Maryland’s native wildlife species for the good of the environment and to maintain them for many generations to enjoy. Patrons of the open house can also enjoy birthday cake and special guest wildlife ambassadors as the organization celebrates its 5th year of protecting local wildlife. \n\n\n– FREE\, ALL AGES!\n** While there is no charge to attend this event\, donations are accepted and encouraged!**\n– Specific event times and further details to be published at a later date.
